Keep in mind, earning money is one thing, how you manage it is another. Even if you make a LOT of money, I’ve seen people who don’t have a clue on how to save for the future and not live just in the present. By now, he should be able to tell if she acts spoiled and expects him to pay for everything- with no offer of being generous in return in some way.

The bottom line is about what the bring to the table- would they be a good mother, a good partner, would they be around if your salary no longer stayed the same? Are they loyal? No everyone is about their career- and sometimes, some people are lucky enough that they have opportunities (like family money) that helps them in life get what they want. Maybe she really, really wants to be a stay-at-home Mom. But, since when was that not a job in itself?

I once broke up with a guy because he couldn’t deal with the idea that my parents helped pay for my grad school (I also happened to get a work scholarship too).

If we’ve gone back to how well she can support my lifestyle (or if I am with her do I actually have to compromise my lifestyle)? Kind of sad.

Yes, Another Day you are right that a 38 year old living off his parents would be considered bad. But again, last time I checked most of my married female friends are still the major care taker when it comes to children and they have given up parts of THEIR income to take this responsibility on.
